Gary Taylor, President, Retirement Living Group

Mr. Taylor graduated from Utah State University with a degree in business and Masters Degree in Communication Disorders.

Gary began his career as Administrator in nursing homes, learning the details of regulated business and how to motivate staff provide kind and quality assistance to each resident as though he/she was the only resident in his care.
In 1975 Gary leased a beautiful senior living property in downtown Salt Lake City.  By 1979 there were 4 four senior living communities in the Salt Lake area. The association of these few communities grew to be known as UALA, Utah Assisted living Association. Then began the development of regulations and standards by the state of Utah.  Gary served on several years on the board of UALA and as president for 4 years.  During that time there was a thrust in construction of assisted living communities in Utah.  Educating the new and inexperienced administrators was a top priority with good achievement.
In 1990 and 1993, Gary purchased Heritage Place in Bountiful, Utah, and Golden Living Center in Taylorsville, Ut, adding 160 Assisted Living units to the small company.  Then came Le Chateau at Brickyard Plaza with 108 units, then Golden Living Orem, with 69 units and Lakeside Village 144 units.

A central management and holding company, Retirement Living Group was formed for the nearly 600 units of senior housing and care. With each acqusition came new management challenges. Gary and his Administrators forged ahead with processes to assure quality assistance to the residents.

As a pioneer in the new industry of Assisted Living, Gary was quick to develop State standards and expectations for resident satisfaction.  He also learned that while many families of residents thought that meals and assistance with activities of daily living were the most important to residents, Gary learned that activities, outings, and "pastivities" for residents were really the most important elements his company could provide.

Gary served in the Cub Master in the Boy Scouts, Sunday School teacher in his Church, and as a Lay Minister.  Gary enjoyed singing with and to his residents.  That talent lead to him being accepted as a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, an avocation he served for 20 years.
